HO WEST DISTRICT ASSEMBLY ORGANIZES A FIVE-DAY TRAINING WORKSHOP ON COMMUNITY-LED TOTAL SANITATION (CLTS) FOR ALL ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICERS AND DICCs MEMBERS

The Ho West District Assembly organized a five-day training workshop on Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) at the Assembly Hall from 11th to 17th November, 2025. The training brought together Environmental Health Officers and members of the District Inter-Agency Coordinating Committee on Sanitation (DICCs) to build their capacity in facilitating CLTS activities across the district.

Mr. Eli Tsikata, the District Coordinating Director, in his welcome address, commended the Environmental Health Unit for organizing the training and urged participants to fully engage in all activities. He stressed that the knowledge gained would enhance their effectiveness in field operations and support the district’s sanitation objectives.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Profer Francis Dusey, graced the workshop and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to improving sanitation and eliminating open defecation. He emphasized that CLTS is a critical behaviour-change tool and encouraged participants to take the sessions seriously to improve sanitation outcomes across communities in the district.

The Regional Environmental Health Officer, Mrs. Stella Kumedzro, applauded the Assembly for building the capacity of Environmental Health Staff and also providing a two motorbike to the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit to support field monitoring and strengthen CLTS implementation in the district.She highlighted the importance of the CLTS approach as a community-driven process and encouraged officers to apply the methodologies effectively during community work.

Mr. Bismark Von Golloh, the District Human Resource Manager urged participants to use the training to improve their skills and emphasized that continuous capacity building is essential for effective service delivery.

The training was facilitated by experienced Environmental Health Officers and CLTS experts, who took participants through key CLTS concepts, triggering processes, sanitation mapping, behaviour-change communication, and community engagement strategies.

As part of the training, participants undertook field visits to communities implementing CLTS in the District. The visits allowed them to observe triggering activities, interact with community members, identify sanitation gaps, and discuss possible solutions.

Participants expressed readiness to apply the lessons learned to achieve Open Defecation Free (ODF) status in communities across the district.
